Texas Instruments Unveils Mixed Signal Video Decoder Optimized for Consumer Electronics in the United States, Japan and China

Texas Instruments to Demonstrate Mixed Signal Video Decoder at NAB

DALLAS, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) introduces a mixed signal video decoder optimized for use in the United States, Japan and China. The high performance video decoder converts NTSC, PAL and SECAM video into digital component video for high- quality and high-performance applications. The mixed signal video decoder will be available for demonstration at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Las Vegas on April 19-21, booth number SL2169. (See http://www.ti.com/mixedsignalvideo .)

"The TVP5147 mixed-signal video decoder demonstrates TI's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality and cost-effective solutions for consumer electronic products," said Ron Richter, worldwide marketing manager for TI's mixed signal video group. "The TVP5147's optimized feature set provides an attractive price-performance balance, enabling cost competitive DVD-Recorder and TV applications in North America, Japan and China."

Targeting high quality, high-performance video applications, the TVP5147 is well suited for the high growth DVD recordable (DVD-R) market, and will also be integrated into traditional CRT TVs as well as LCD, DLP(TM) and plasma video display systems. The TVP5147 digital video decoder includes a 2D 5-line adaptive comb filter for high quality Y/C separation and technology to process non-standard signals for superior overall video performance. Offered in an 80-pin TQFP PowerPad(TM) package, the TVP5147 is also pin and software compatible with the previously released TVP5146 decoder.

The TVP5147 converts base-band analog video into digital video, supporting up to ten component video inputs including composite (NTSC, PAL and SECAM), S-Video, and component (YPbPr) video signals. The device also includes an analog video output for TV video out signals or connection to other external devices. Video signal processing has been optimized to produce high-quality video from weak broadcast signals or non-standard VCR video. Additionally, the decoder outputs ITU-R BT.656 and supports Macrovision(TM) copy protection as well as advanced VBI functionality. Evaluation boards, software tools and application notes are now available from TI.

Pricing and Availability

The TVP5147 digital video decoder is in volume production today at $9.00 at 1k quantities or $5.00 for high-volume OEM applications.
